Based on fundamental research from the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Ceramic Fuel Cells has developed extensive capabilities and deep experience with ceramic powders.
Located near Manchester (UK), our powder plant produces high-purity, high-quality engineered ceramic powders. The plant is set-up to manufacture mixed-oxide powders for a number of industries using a pharmaceutical quality manufacturing process.
Innovative production process
At the centre of our powder facility is a patented continuous production process. Engineered ceramic powders are traditionally manufactured using a batch production method which can introduce variability.
The benefits of our continuous production process include:
- Avoids the inherent batch-to-batch variability
- Leverage of a high degree of process and chemistry control, from the significantly smaller scale reaction our patented technology compared to existing processing technology
- Significantly less waste compared to existing chemistry and processing routes - up to 80 per cent less waste
As a consequence our manufacturing process yields very high-purity, nano-homogeneous, mixed oxide powders.
Product capability
Our speciality is high-purity zirconia based ceramic powders - with some of the mixed oxide products including:
- Hydrothermally stable yttria stabilised zirconia powders
- 3YSZ (3 mol% yttria stabilised zirconia) - Higher conductivity zirconia powders
- 8YSZ (8 mol% yttria stabilised zirconia)
- 5YbSZ (5 mol% ytterbia stabilised zirconia) - Binder grade powders (ready-to-press)
- Developed for bio-medical & dental applications
- Also suitable for mechanical applications where good green strength is important - Other mixed oxides formulations produced include;
- Spinels, aluminas, and zirconia toughened aluminas (ZTAs)
In addition to powder sales, with a well appointed laboratory and skilled staff, we can offer to contract manufacture or co-develop a number of engineered ceramic powders for your needs.
