CFCL has further extended its position as a world leader in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell development, passing the milestone of 50% electrical efficiency:
CFCL's fuel cell systems now produce electricity at more than 60% electrical efficiency *
* (Net AC export power, based on LHV of Natural Gas)
CFCL is the first company in the world to demonstrate the production of electricity at this level of efficiency from small-scale fuel cell systems. The fuel cell system utilise CFCL's Gennex™ fuel cell module - but with the latest Balance of Plant components which are now optimised for low power consumption and high efficiency.
About the Installation
Installed under real-world conditions - connected to the electricity grid, mains water and natural gas network - the Gennex™ fuel cell module is part of an integrated micro-CHP system. The performance to date has been world leading, with the system automatically maintaining grid export power as seen in the system control overview below.

Why electrical efficiency is important
Just like a motor vehicle travels further on the same amount of fuel with a fuel efficient engine; CFCL's fuel cell module can generate more electricity from the same unit of fuel compared to other generation technologies.
This is extremely important for utilities and product applications that need to generate electricity using the least amount of fuel. High electrical efficiency has other benefits such as low heat output and CO2 reduction.
