Generation of electricity has an impact on the environment.  The level of impact on the environment heavily depends on which method of generating electricity is employed.  Electricity generated by wind power, solar radiation and wave power all has a part to play in creating environmentally friendly electricity generation.

What happens when the sun stops shining?

Or on a calm, still day when there is no wind?

Fuel cells, and in particular Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) can provide continuous base load electricity with less of an impact than traditional fossil fuel combustion generation technologies.
